Just from our experience in the credit card industry alone, we found out that many were violating basic PCI compliance standards, which in turn, directly violated HIPAA compliance standards. This sparked some further investigation on our end, and we discovered that these facilities were not just violating PCI, but were furthermore overstepping several aspects to the HIPAA jurisdiction, which they have been and are currently held accountable to.
What made and currently makes matters even more serious, however, is the fact that the Office of Civil Rights has greatly increased regulation and fines across the medical industry, with fines escalating up to $50,000 per violation and up to $1.5 million per year. This is due to the hundreds of millions of patients’ records that have been compromised over the last few years. Now 2018, hackers are indeed rampant and data breaches are a very real thing! As a result, the treatment industry faces threats from both the hackers who could damage your brand through a data breach and the HIPAA officers slapping fines on facilities due to lack of compliance.
With all this in consideration, we knew there was a need for assistance in this area. That is why we developed our all-in-one program for the treatment industry. We have come to find that many treatment facilities have based their HIPAA compliance off JACHO/CARF accreditations or by merely having EMR systems (i.e. Kipu & Best Notes) in place.
